Winter is traditionally the turbo season. Crappy weather and few hours of sunlight means that many of us get our kicks inside.
Trainers are a great way to get some miles in without braving the roads. But riding without a plan isn’t making the best use of your turbo time. The best thing about turbo trainers, apart from being able to watch The Wire whilst cycling, is that you can fine tune your workout to a far higher degree than is possible out on the road.
Why not try using a training plan rather than just riding till you're blinded with sweat? Think about focusing on specific areas, endurance or power for example. You’ll see far bigger gains as a result.
Way back in 2006, our personal training guru came up with a set of turbo training workouts (beginner, intermediate and advanced). They are a great way to begin.
