It’s St. David’s day soon, a time to celebrate all things
Welsh, all the great things about being Welsh and living in Wales. Believe me there’s a lot to celebrate and I’m not talking Daffodils and leeks
here, although they are undeniably lovely, I’m talking about the riding Wales has got to offer.
Whatever kind of cycling floats your boat we’ve got it. You could spend a year out on your road bike and never ride up or down the same quiet brutally steep hill twice. Touring is a delight for the same reason and the fantastic scenery. Of course if you fancy getting a bit more in amongst the scenery then you're spoilt for choice.
MBWales is a great place to start the adventure, containing all the details of the numerous trail centres Wales has to offer.
Here at Tredz we’re lucky enough to live right in the middle of some of
the best. Afan Argoed
is 20 minutes down the road and contains some of the best
trails any where in the UK. It has been at the forefront of man made trail development since the beginning.
Trail centres are certainly not all Wales has to offer the off-road enthusiast. A quick look through any of the increasingly available guide books will reveal just a tiny fraction of the literally thousands of miles of great tracks and trails that crisscross the Welsh mountains and valleys.
Downhillers are more than well catered for as well as a brief chat with any one in the know will quickly reveal. A wealth of local ‘secret’ tracks as well as all the established publicly accessible tracks like the deservedly famous Cwmcarn.
I could go on, there really is so much great riding in Wales. If you live here already and didn’t know it then get out there and explore. If you don’t live here, unlucky, but please come and visit for the weekend, you wont regret it.
If you're feeling fit and up for a challenge then perhaps you could try out TransWales. A 7 day, 344 mile stage race taking you through some of the most beautiful parts of Wales and all off-road. This is the UK's premier mountain bike stage race and the fact that it is being held in Wales (again) says a lot for the quality of riding we have to offer.
Whilst you mull over how best to enjoy the riding we have to offer, back to the leeks:
Our favourite way to
cook them is give them a good wash, slice into ½” chunks, stick them in a dish
with 5 or 10mm of water and bung them in the microwave for 4 minutes till
they’re still a bit crunchy, toss in a little butter and scoff, tidy boys.
Happy St Davids Day!
