After the attention-grabbing performance of the British cyclists in the Olympics there is definitely an increased interest in the Paralympic team we’re sending. The cycling gets under way on the 7th Sept. Step up Mr Jody Cundy, competing in the kilo and the team sprint. An awesome athlete, he switched from swimming to cycling after winning everything he could in the pool. Now he’s dominating the track sprint in much the same way.
On top of being almost permanently engaged in training (when he’s not competing), Jody is always happy to keep us updated with his news…
Thought I'd give you a quick update before I head off to the village next Saturday.
I'm currently mid way through our holding camp in sunny Manchester! Our whole team has been encouraged and motivated by the awesome display of dominance our track team in Beijing, so we're looking forward to continuing that form. We've been testing out all the "Secret Squirrel" kit this week and can't wait till we arrive in Beijing and start racing.
Our 2nd day of training also doubled as our media day, and although most of the nations press was in Beijing we still had a lot of interest, helped a lot by the success of our able bodied team!
And it was interview central, Sky sports, Setanta, BBC plus the nations press!
The new leg Ossur have developed is working great and is really comfortable. It seems to be aiding my speed, which is always a bonus!
We arrive in the Paralympic village on the 31st of August, we have the opening ceremony on the 6th of September, then the track racing gets underway on the 7th September.
I'm racing the Kilo on the 9th and the Team Sprint on the 10th, and then I'll be off to the "water Cube" to support my girlfriend (Elizabeth Johnson) in her pursuit of Paralympic glory on the 12th.
Fingers crossed I'll be able to send you an update from Beijing, but if not the British Cycling website will have a full reviews and updates from all the cycling events and the BBC have highlights every evening plus 5-6 hours of interactive and online coverage to.
Speak to you soon
Jody
