This weekend a few lucky Tredz employees were invited out to Spain for the official product launch of the 2009 Scott Genius.
It’s an all-new carbon designed frame featuring Scotts IMP4 carbon technology. The rear shock has been re designed taking technology from the ransom oil transfer system to up the travel to 5.9 inches. Scott said they set out to build "The lightest marathon/trail bike with 150mm (5.9 inches) of travel." It is significantly lighter than any other 6 inch travel bike on the market. In fact at 10kg/22lb for the top end model – it’s competing with most 4 inch XC bikes.
After a full days riding in the dusty hot Spanish hills I can vouch for the fact that this bike is awesome. Much plusher than the Genius of old, for such a light bike it’s still really trail-capable, but it still flies up hills thanks to the patented traction control system.
For those of you who can’t afford the top end Genius and at just over £7000 that’ll be most of us, there are 7 different models to pick from.
If you are looking for a long travel, but very light marathon/all mountain bike, this could be the one for you. Check it out, you wont be disappointed. We would also like to give Ian and Russ at Scott a big shout out for an amazing launch, cheers guys.
