Help with choosing the right fit

Even with the sizing charts on the website, being able to speak to an experienced cyclist about the nitty-gritty of choosing correct sizes to suit your build and activities can make a large difference to deciding on the best bike to buy:

Hi there, Just like to say i received my Giant XTC SE bike on Monday extremely promtly and as far i can see all in good order!! I discussed with Pete over sizing and went for the 14 inch model and although i wont be able to get out on it till Sunday (seems ages away!) i think its the right decision there. There is no way i would have had clearence over a 17 inch model. Anyway, just like to say thanks for the prompt service and very happy with the purchase.

Cheers Richard

Fast delivery and a good fit

We aim to get bikes to our customers as fast as possible, once you have ordered you don't want to have to wait longer than necessary. This is appreciated, as commented by this customer:

Congrats on a great delivery speed. Love my new bike, fits me well. If anyone i know is looking for a bike i will recommend you and not just for delivery speed.

Thanks, Al

Our first happy customer

Just one week since launching our new online bike store and we have positive feedback from a happy customer.

I have just received the bike lock I ordered with you, and I would just like to say thank you so much for all your help with it. It is great to have found a company so friendly and helpful.

Many thanks,

Laura K

She may be the first but we hope she's not the last

Tredz contributors

Contributors' preferences very wildly at TredzTalk. We have extremely talented and uber-trained athletes posting here but we also wanted the less specialist (not necessarily less talented) riders to contribute as well. This blog isn't designed for the cycling elite; its about opening the lid on Tredz as a company and seeing what it, and its people, are all about.

We're sure loads of people will scribble posts in this blog, but below are the bios of those who we thought you might be most interested in. Most work for us (except Natalie who's Simon's better half - strange how look so alike eh?), others are sponsored riders and close mates who ride bikes.

EMPLOYED CYCLISTS (and forced to write)

Chris_close_upChris - has worked for us on and off since 1992. He's probably the most technically competent guy we've ever had in the team. Given the time, Chris will have a go at just about anything. He pedals anything on two wheels anywhere they’ll go, kayaks (mainly at sea), climbs (but NEVER indoors), snowboards and does the odd spot of caving. He lives for his holidays, getting to the Alps as often as possible for mountain biking or climbing. His album is here.
RIDES: Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp, Specialized Big Hit, Mongoose Black Diamond, Univega cro-mo tourer, DMR cro-mo 26" jump bike.

Edd close upEd - he's been hanging round the bike shops for years and fell in to working with us in 2003. His expertise lies in being airborne with wheels - be it BMX, jump bike or mountain bike. He makes it look effortless but this comes from a LOT of practice. Irritatingly for us, he is also superb on a snowboard and skateboard and has recently taken up surfing.

He’s studying for a degree in environmental studies so he can save the woods for us all, but he’s partial to digging big drop-offs in them as well. He’s man of few words, so expect his contributions to be heavy on the pictures - some are posted here.
RIDES: Kona Coiler Deluxe, Kona Cowan, Specialized Demo8, Kona Kula.

James_bristol_bikefest_06James - his sporting days really started in rowing when he was 13. He went on to represent Wales in regattas from 1997 to 2002 and collected two bronze and a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games [huge respect, Ed.]. But after 16 years on the water he sold his boat and bought a bike. Cycling has become his new passion, both road racing and mountain bikes.

Swansea houses the National Swimming Pool of Wales and Triathlon has become the endurance sport of choice for the area and James is trying to master it. Unfortunately, despite having spent more time on the water than in a car, he can't swim very well! Let's hope his lessons are going to plan.
RIDES: Scott Genius MC30, Felt F5C.

Nat_1Nat - married to Simon so you could say she's part of the family, if not actually employed. Nat is an occasional mountain biker, riding cross country stuff every few weeks. She is the head photography lecturer at a local Swansea college and a fledgling marathon runner. Her not-inconsiderable snapping skills are often purloined for our events. That means the properly framed and focused artwork you find on this site will be of her doing (the rubbish is from the rest us).
RIDES: Scott G Zero FX10, Electra Black Betty.

Nic_warp_2Nic - the marketer and instigator of all things web, especially this blog. He stopped cycling for a while but has been in love the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR range for a couple of years now. A new child and running Tredz means he only manages a couple of hours mountain biking a month - preferably in Afan Argoed (the wall is his favourite out of the 4 routes).
RIDES: Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert and Allez.
Does he really smile this much?

Simon_warpSimon - is one of our long standing store managers. He's been wrecking his knees on skate, wake and snowboards since he was 12 (his excuse for being last up every mountain). Like many MTBers, he found his way to mountain biking via BMX. He still rides boards when he can, but now rides mostly mountain bikes as he's under the impression that it’s not as bad for his knees. His real photos are here.

When not trashing his knees, he’s skinning his knuckles under one of his trucks: Dodge Ram V8 or ’64 VW panel van. We don’t complain as he's got the only vehicle capable of carrying 6 riders and their bikes (and in some style!).
RIDES: Specialized Big Hit, Kona Coil Air.

SPONSORED RIDERS (and also forced to write)

World_champs_kilo009_1Jody Cundy - Jody started swimming at the age of 5 by being given an inflatable back pack and told to get in the water. Due to missing a leg (lower right) he was unbalanced, rolled onto his back and sunk to the bottom of the pool. His parents decided to invest in ‘proper’ club swimming lessons and he soon learnt. At the age of 10, he raced in his first gala. From there it was club, county and finally country in 1994. For 18 years he raced competitively in the pool, breaking world records, winning world championships and three Olympic gold medals.

Early in 2005 Jody was invited to an open disability day at the Newport Velodrome. He only went along as he'd done a little cycling as cross training but the cycle coaches soon realised that had pedalling talent in their midst. He ended up being persuaded to hit the track again in Manchester a few months later where they twisted his arm to buy a racing licence and enter the nationals in October on a borrowed bike. He beat the British record for the flying 200 metres and missed the 1 kilometre record by a second. Since then Jody’s hung up his trunks and ridden full time breaking the World Record for the ‘kilo’ and won gold at the world cup (photos here). Jody's profile page is here.

Nn_03_1 Nigel Nicholas - is a full-time fitness instructor, passionate triathlete and uber Lance Armstrong fan. He's competed in the London Triathlon 2006 as well as several local events and his plans include the London tri again and the Xterra half ironman this year. His lifetime goal is a sub 2 hour Olympic distance triathlon.

We're hoping Nigel can enlighten us with advice that'll lift our cycling and triathlon standards by becoming TredzTalk’s fitness guru. If you're anything like us, you're going to welcome any tips that can help get the most out of pretty limited training time. Help us Nigel, help us…
RIDES: Trek Madone 5.2, Trek 1500, Trek Fuel X9

Jules on 1st placeJulian Poffley - 'Jules' is something of a local legend. Dedicated to whatever sport he chooses, be it skating (ripped), surfing (rips), BMX (rips) and now downhill MTB (rips). He is the consummate privateer racer, liked and respected by everyone he meets. Describing his riding style is difficult as he has usually vanished by the exit of the first bend. He is the kind of rider who keeps scenes going, always riding and building trails and encouraging others to do so. Tredz is proud to sponsor him (regular podiums help) in his riding and racing and we will be keeping you up to date with his results.
RIDES: Kona Stab Deluxe, DMR Rhythm, GT I-Drive 5 1.0, Giant TCR Comp Once Team.

PhilPhil Marland - a Sergeant in the British Army. Phil has been part of our sponsored crew for a year now and is as determined as ever when it comes to challenges. He competed in South Africa's Cape Epic in 06 as well as the Xterra triathlon....
RIDES: Scott Scale 30, Specialized Epic, Specialized Roubaix Comp.

About TredzTalk

Nic_mark_simon_in_sanfranTredzTalk is a bike blog about us, our bikes and other bits we like, written to complement our main site, www.Tredz.co.uk. Our blog is designed to lift the lid on our company and its people, giving you more of an idea about who you’re spending your money with when shopping at Tredz. It also features news and information that simply won’t fit on the main cycle shopping site.

Simon_local_trails_again_1 Some of us are avid cyclists and some ride now and again when the sun joins us. We share an eclectic mix of all types of cycling styles: mountain bike XC, downhill, road racing, commuter, jump bike, BMX and a couple of mongrel styles to boot.

We plan on telling you about what we get up to on (and sometimes off) our bikes. As a group we feel we’ve something to offer the world of two-wheeling and plan on sharing our opinions in accessory and bike reviews, event alerts, help with fixing your bike problems, riding tips and anything else bike-related.

Office_shotWe're based in south Wales, on the doorstep of the great mountain bike test grounds in Afan Forest Park (aka Afan Argoed), Glyncorrwg, Cwmcarn and Nant yr Arian. It's this and other personal cycling experience that lies behind our choice and advice on the world's best brands like Scott, Felt, Raleigh, Specialized, Giant, Saracen, Cannondale, Trek and Kona.
